Desert Botanical Garden Jun Kaneko Exhibit
01/05/2018
The Garden has had some amazing art exhibits placed within the numerous desert plantings over the years.
In 2009 there was a large Chihuly exhibit, which of course, we went to and it is on our web site. Amazing.
This time it is Jun Kaneko. He is a sculptor who specializes in very large pieces, mostly heads but also a fun adaptation of Tunuki.
A Tanuki is a Japanese racoon dog. It has been part of Japanese folklore for centuries. In the tales it is mischievous and jolly, a master of disguise and shapeshifting, but somewhat gullible and absentminded.
I think these figures are a very good example. And they are huge

Our first trip to see Jun was with Casey back in December
Next trip we went with Arlene and Don. Arlene is explaining to Don he needs to turn around. Silly Don
See, much better. In front of the giant orange head
A circle of Tanukis
These guys are almost 9 feet tall
And Iloved the butts. So cute.
A person hugging a Tanuki. I thought it gave you a sense of size
I do not think these shapes have any meaning, but they look lovely
These are also quite large
George doing Vanna
See Arlene? Well that give you an idea of the size of these
And lots of color
Nature - a cactus sculpture
These are always my favorites
