Fossil Creek has been dammed for hydroelectric power for years, but APS decided it was no longer necessary and they dismantled the dam so the creek now runs freely. George and I went there some years ago and couldn't wait to see the difference now that the area is back to its natural state. Wow, big change.

On the historical side in the 20s the hot springs were home to The Verde Hot Springs Resort. The hotel burned down in 1962 and only part of a wall and stairs remain along with its two natural hot springs pools. As we discovered, these are now a favorite of nudists. One nice gentleman gladly showed us where best to ford the creek to get to the baths. We were unprepared for wading the creek or the baths, among other things.
