Rogers Trough Trail 12/28/2011
Ah, that need for "new smell in the nose". This can only mean one thing; George gets to drive on some dirt roads, preferably steep and bumpy, that will end at a trailhead leading to who knows what.
Rogers Trough Trail meets all these.
First there is the hour drive to the first dirt road, then the turn off to the less maintained dirt road, which eventually led to a very nice 4-wheel drive portion up to the trailhead.
Then the 8 mile round trip hike, and more bouncing along those lovely dirt roads to get out.
At least this time I did not have to roll boulders off the road so we could get clearance. Yeah for me
The road was lined with saguaros
Just a nice rock formation along the road
Looking back down the nice dirt road
More rocks and saguaros
We stopped to take a shot of where we had been so far
The area looks so lush thanks to all the rain
A bit higher up on the road and looking back
Finally, the trailhead
The trail crosses the stream many times.
At the cliff dwellings the sign reminds folks to tread lightly
Up to the cliff dwellings.
This was a cute couple we met along the trail
Location, location - the ancient people really new how to pick a sight
Not too much is left of the structures down below
After admiring the remaining ruins and taking in the views it was time to hike out and go home.
