Like most folks, we've got friends scattered across the country, many in the Southeast. We thought it would be fun to head East and visit along the way. Yes, we did warn everyone we were coming so they had ample time to run. None did.
We left Arizona on May 1 heading East. Our first stop was Pascagoula, Mississippi to see Mary, Michelle & Rocky. After a few days there we headed to Athens, Alabama to visit with Ed & Cynthia. Then onto Salem, South Carolina for a few days with Paula & Bruce. From there we headed to Maryland.
The weather everywhere was just great, and we had such a good time visiting all our friends and seeing the sights. Oh, yes, don't forget eating our way across the country.
We came home about May 25. Next time we go East we'll make it to Maine!!!
Had some time to kill so we thought we would take in a local cave. As usual, some pretty formations, a couple bratty kids, and a nice guide.
We spent some time with our friends Paula & Bruce. They live not too far from Salem and there are quite a few waterfalls around them, so naturally we took a hike or two to see some of them.
We went for a little boat ride on Keowee Lake. There are some very pretty rouses along the shore and a golf course. So far the homes do not seem to overpower the landscape and the beauty of the lake is still there
Udvar-Hazy gave $65 Million to the Smithsonian to build this facility. It houses quite a few of the planes that were too large to be displayed in the Air & Space Museum in D.C. If it's got wings, it's here.
That 707 is the one the pilot flew upside-down just to prove it could be done, since he was told it couldn't.
Our little digital can not do this place justice. It's absolutely amazing.
The Blackbird is huge but magnificent. The Corsair (my favorite) and the Flying Tiger look like they're just waiting to down a Zero. The Concord is so long we couldn't get it in one shot. There is even a display of just engines of all sorts.
This place is just great.
