Woods Canyon Lake - October 2014
10/01/2014
Woods Canyon Lake is about 30 miles east of Payson. It is quite scenic in a heavily forested area on the edge of the Mogollon Rim.
The landscape is beautiful and since it's at about 7,500 feet, the temps are pleasant even in the spring and summer months.
Just for you fishermen - it might be a small lake but it has produced some trophy size Rainbows and Brown Trout including a 10 pound Brownie caught in 1999.
Woods Canyon Lake 10/01/2014
Don and Arlene went with us to hike around Woods Canyon Lake.
This is a great way to spend an afternoon.
The woods are so fragrant with the smell of pine, and the breeze is always just right.
A bonus for us was the plethora of mushrooms - we love shrooms - and so many bits of memory were attributed to capturing the great variety.
When you start - well if you go to the right - there's often this nice waterfall
A shot of part of the lake
As you can see lots of great rocks and pines
Just a nice, artsy green pine cone.
The obligatory shot of me looking lost - which would be hard to do even for me.
I liked this cauliflower type shroom
No idea why George wanted to let you all know I can tie my own shoes
Pretty little flower
Could not resist some artsy water shots
A black mushroom. It's just so cool looking
We were enamored of this blue bug.
Your brain on drugs
Some pretty red plants. No idea what they are but I just liked them
MORE SHROOMS - this one is red
So is this one
And these on a tree
Looks like s huge slug
Guess squirrels do not miss many meals here judging by his girth.
Beautiful white mushrooms
A woodpecker - hard to get a picture because he was pecking like crazy
The yellow blob shroom
